The Louisiana Statistical Analysis Center publishes annual statistical index crime reports as part of its criminal information related functions. According to the 2017 report, Tangipahoa Parish law enforcement agencies reported a net total of 3,497 index crime offenses in the year. A closer look at the data revealed property crimes to be the leading subset of offenses with larceny accounting for 47.9% of the total reports received in the 12-month span. There were also 819 reported incidents of burglary, making it the second-most common crime in the Parish. Aggravated assault was third-overall and the most recurring violent crime while motor vehicle theft and robbery were reported 263 and 136 times respectively. Least most reported were rape and murder/manslaughter, which were recorded 51 and 9 times respectively, constituting only 1.7% of the reported criminal offenses.

The Louisiana State Police Department is the primary custodian of the criminal records for the state and is charged with processing requests for statewide criminal history information and background checks. At the parish level, this service is provided by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, which serves as the main law enforcement agency of the parish and local repository of crime-related reports and records.
How to get Criminal Records
The Criminal Records Division of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office processes requests for criminal background checks, arrest records, and incident reports. Criminal records typically include details regarding the subject's misdemeanor and felony arrests and charges, as well as all conviction and disposition information all of which concern the Tangipahoa Sheriff's jurisdiction.

How to find Sex Offender Information
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office maintains a Sex Offender Registry, which houses information regarding offenders resident within Parish limits. Interested persons may view offender addresses, compliance status, and their online identifiers by using the search tools available on the Registry. Offenders may be searched by name, home, work or school address, city or by their proximity to specific locations within the Parish. The Tangipahoa Parish Prison is primarily managed by the Parish Sheriff's Office, which processes requests regarding the facility or its current detainees. Where and how to Get Court Records
The Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court office is charged with performing a variety of administrative duties for the parish government and the Parish courts. The office retains records of filings and proceedings of cases heard by the courts and disseminates them to interested persons. Records which have been deemed non-confidential may be accessed by Parish residents upon querying the Copy Department/File Room of the office. The requestor will be required to provide information regarding the record including the names of the litigant, plaintiff, defendant, and witnesses, as well as the case file number of the record and the date the case was filed.
The requesting party will also be charged a fee of $1 per page of the document requested and an addition $10 if record certification is required.

Vital Records
The Louisiana State Registrar and Vital Records Office compiles and disseminates vital records for all Louisiana state residents and citizens in compliance with state laws. At Parish level, this task is primarily performed by the Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court's office which maintains records of all births, deaths, marriages, and divorces which occur within Parish limits.
Where and how to Get Divorce Records
Records of divorces granted by the Tangipahoa Parish courts are maintained by the office of the Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court. The office disseminates copies of divorce records to interested persons upon request.
To obtain a record, the requesting party may query the Copy Department/File Room of the office via mail or in person. This will require the requestor to provide information regarding the divorce including the names of the parties involved, the date and place of the divorce as well as the case file number of the record (if known).
The requestor will also be required to pay a fee of $1 for the copy plus, an additional $10 if they require a certified divorce record. Record requests may be made to the Amite or Hammond location of the office of the Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Courts.
Where and how to get Marriage Records, Birth Records and Death Records
Requests for Tangipahoa Parish birth, death and divorce records are processed by the office of the Clerk of Court. As per Louisiana state laws, birth and death certificates are not public records, and as such, may only be accessed by eligible persons including the subject of the record, the immediate relatives of the subject or their legal representatives, and persons authorized by a court order. On the other hand, interested members of the public may obtain marriage records upon request. Requests for birth, deaths and marriage records may be made in person to the Amite location of the Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Courts Office.
To obtain a birth or death record, the requestor will be required to provide information regarding the subject of the record including their full names and the date and place of the birth or death.
Along with their request, the requesting party will also be required to provide one of the acceptable primary identification documents or two secondary documents.
Requestors will also be charged $34 for a long-form birth certificate or $48 for a long and short-form birth certificate and $26 for a death certificate. Similarly, requests for marriage records will require the requestor to provide information regarding the marriage including the names of the spouses, the date and place of the marriage and the marriage certificate number.
