Crime Numbers
The Statistical Analysis Center of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice collates crime data for all parishes in the state. Its latest crime statistics reports are for the year 2017. In that year, St. Tammany Parish recorded 247 violent crimes and 1,795 property crimes. In comparison to the 2013 crime figures for the parish, the violent crime rate rose by 19.3% while property crime rate shrank by 13.7%.
A closer look at reported Part I crimes for the parish shows that there were 12 murders, 29 rapes, 17 robberies, and 189 aggravated assaults in 2017. St. Tammany Parish also recorded 412 burglaries, 1,264 larcenies, and 119 motor vehicle thefts in the same period. The most recent five-year crime trend for the parish indicates a 625% spike in rape cases (mostly due to the expanded definition of the crime in the intervening years) and a 7.4% rise in aggravated assault rate. In the same period, robbery (37%), burglary (20%), larceny (10.5%), and motor vehicle theft (21.2%) rates fell.
Criminal Records
Louisiana is a closed record state which means criminal history reports are only provided to authorized agencies or individuals requesting personal criminal history records. The Department of Public Safety of the Louisiana State Police (LSP) provides criminal history reports for all parishes in the state. Individuals in St. Tammany Parish can request criminal history records from the state police in person and by mail.
The processing cost for each request is $26 plus an additional $10 for fingerprinting when making a request in person. For an in-person request, visit the Louisiana State Police Headquarters at:

Come along with a money order or cashier's/business check for the appropriate fees. Make the check or money order payable to the Department of Public Safety, LSP. A valid state-issued ID or driver's license is also required to complete the request. The office is open from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Requests submitted before 3:00 p.m. are fulfilled the same day.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office (STPSO) provides local criminal history records about arrests made in the parish. The fee for each criminal record request depends on the purpose of the request and ranges from $15 to $30. To obtain a copy of criminal history records provided by the STPSO, submit a request online at the Sheriff's Office Public Records Center page or visit any of the Sheriff's Office locations in the parish. The Sheriff's Office attends to these requests Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and accepts cash, check, and money order for copy fee.
The STPSO also provides incident and accident reports for events that occurred in the parish. Copies of incident reports cost $10 for the first 20 pages and 50 cents for each additional page. Accident reports cost $7.50 per copy. Contact either of the STPSO locations at the addresses provided above to request for copies of these reports.

To obtain an accident report in person at the local Troop Office, bring along a completed Crash Request Form and a processing fee of $8.50. For further inquiries, call (225) 925-6156.
The LSP maintains a central database of registered sex offenders and child predators in Louisiana including those living in St. Tammany Parish. It makes this registry available to the general public online. Visit the Louisiana Sex Offender Registry website and select St. Tammany Parish to search for registered sex offenders living within the parish. Citizens can also search the registry by name, street address, or cities in the parish.
Jail Information
St. Tammany Parish Jail is the only detention facility in the parish and is maintained by the Sheriff's Office. The jail is situated at the Justice Center, the same location as the Sheriff's Office, in Covington. Friends and family can fund inmates’ accounts by sending money orders via mail. The STPSO provides an inmate roster on its website to help the public locate individuals currently held at the parish jail. Select ‘current inmates’ on the page to view inmates’ booking details and mugshots. There is a search tool on the page to help locate inmates by name or booking number. The STPSO also provides a list of inmates released in the last 48 hours from the facility.
Court Records
St. Tammany Parish courts belong to the state's 22nd Judicial District Court. The parish’s primary trial court is the District Court. While it has general jurisdiction over all cases, it typically only handles appeal cases from lower courts. The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court maintains the records for all courts in the parish. These case records are accessible online at the Clerk's website via its Odyssey WebROAportal. Registration and a subscription plan are required to access case files on the portal. Vital Records
St. Tammany Parish divorce records are maintained by the Clerk of Court. To obtain certified copies of these divorce records contact the Clerk's Office at the Justice Center at the address provided above.
Records of marriages that occurred in St. Tammany Parish are also maintained by the parish's Clerk of Court. Contact the Clerk's Office to obtain certified copies of St. Tammany Parish marriage records.
St. Tammany Parish birth and death records are maintained by the State Registrar and Vital Records Office of the Louisiana Department of Health. A requests for copies of a birth or death certificate must include a completed application, the appropriate fees, and a valid photo ID. The office accepts requests by mail or in person. A copy of a short-form birth certificate costs $15 the fee for a death certificate is $7. Bring these documents and fees to the Vital Records Central Office located at:

A requester can also request these records in person from the Office of the St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court at the Justice Center. The Clerk’s Office charges $34 for each long-form birth certificate and $26 for each death certificate.
